Detailed Product Description
Submerged Entry Shroud and Nozzle SEN
Description:
There are no standard features for shrouds and nozzles, individual designs being dependent on casting machine parameters such as strand size and shape, steel grade and casting speed. All Horton SEN/SESs are custom designed to meet the needs of each steel plant. The complex shapes are formed by isostatic pressing, which ensures homogeneity of chemical and physical properties throughout the products. When required, SEN/SESs can be insulated with a highly insulating ceramic fibre free cladding to increase thermal shock resistance, the design of the insulation being configurable to specific customer requirements.
A wide range of carbon bonded alumina, magnesia and zirconia graphite based recipes are used to produce Horton SEN/SESs selected to meet individual customer needs. A Zirconia graphite slag band is employed to reduce wear resulting from slag attack. Magnesia graphite seating areas are used to provide improved performance and greater resistance to erosion from the high steel flow. To avoid oxidation of the carbon bond system, SEN/SESs are normally glazed internally and externally. These special glazes develop on preheating at temperatures above 800°C and form a glass seal on the surface of the product. Horton SESs are also available for use in tube changing devices.
Application:
The Horton SEN/SES is placed in position on the tundish before casting commences. A Horton SES is used to facilitate replacement during casting, permitting longer sequences to be achieved. A Horton SEN is fitted as an integral part of the tundish when a jointless system is preferred. Preheating is necessary for composite SEN/SESs to avoid cracking during startup due to thermal shock. Thermal shock cracks are minimised by material design and quality and by keeping the temperature differential between product and steel at the start up as low as possible.
Function:
Submerged Entry Nozzles (SENs) and Shrouds (SESs) are critical components in the continuous casting process. These components are usually made from a combination of carbon bonded alumina, zirconia and magnesia graphite, which have been found to give the best response to the extreme demands of thermal shock, corrosion and erosion resistance to which these components are subjected.
Benefits:
1.A range of formulations is available, and purpose design to customers individual requirements.
2.Rigorous testing ensures the best possible service life even under the most arduous casting conditions.
3.Horton solutions meet the highest standards of quality, reliability and performance.
